Who Moved The Cheese?

We all have read a few books that have stood out in our memory and become part of us. I enjoy reading fiction but I also enjoy non-fiction. Who Moved My Cheese? by Spencer Johnson is a book that I refer to whenever I feel down and out about something not going the way I had wished. It actually landed on my lap one day during a shift at the Harrow Library. During that time in my life my schedule at the library was turned upside down and the job as I knew it had changed forever. I was mad, I was upset and resentful. I read the cheese book, took a deep breath and decided to make the best of it. Someone moved my cheese- how dare they! How unfair! I had two choices since I was never going back to the old schedule at the Harrow library, suck it up, move on and smile or continue to be mad, sad, and angry.

I eventually moved on with a smile and now I am making the best of what was once a bad situation in my life. I had planned my life around the perfect little job at the Harrow Library. My spouse and I had planned our family with that job in mind. The job I currently have at the library is nothing like the one I got hired to do. I had to accept the fact that change happens, cheese moves, even when we don’t want it to.

High School English class, Beth Boudreau had a quote on her wall. ” Life isn’t fair, learn to COPE”. Well isn’t that true! It is not fair and sometimes there is not a damn thing you can do about it except choose to go forward. Why are some people free to do whatever they want, create or bend the rules however they want, when others are not afforded the same red carpet treatment?

I know and sympathize that there is a lot of change going on in our municipality right now. I feel it. I feel the anxiety, hurt, and excitement coming from so many of us. I know that communities are getting motels, apartment buildings, and new subdivisions and I do hear the concerns from all of those directly impacted. Someone moved your cheese and it sucks for you. There is nothing I can say to make it better, I can only say as a very active councillor, I am listening to your concerns and trying my best to mitigate negative impacts to your quality of life. Please keep your council in the loop of things going on in your neck of the woods so we can take a proactive approach rather than reactive. Your voice matters.

I highly recommend reading this book. Call the library and put it on hold today!
