Meeting of the Lakeshore Dog Pound

  • News

The Towns of Essex, Lasalle, Lakeshore and Tecumseh all belong to a regional Dog Pound located at 914 Puce Road in Lakeshore. Tonight, members Steven Wilder, Anita Riccio-Spagnuolo, Brian Houston, and myself along with Brianna Coughlin, Division Leader of Civic Affairs from Lakeshore held our quarterly meeting.

“There were 67 dogs admitted to the Dog Pound in 2021, with a redemption rate of
approximately 96%. Three dogs were transferred to the St. Clair College Veterinary
program.
The breakdown of the 2021 use of the facility is as follows:

Financial Impacts
The annual expenses for the Dog Pound are divided in the following manner:
– Emergency veterinary care, capital expenses, administration costs and transfers
to reserves are divided evenly between all four member municipalities.
– The remaining net operating expenses are divided based on the total “dog days”
for the year.
Although the final year-end accounting is not yet complete, preliminary analysis shows
that expenses were significantly under budget for 2021 as there were no emergency
veterinary or unexpected capital or maintenance expenses.”
