Hi Doug and Council,

How do we get the county level of government to pay for the new organics program?

Should it not be a county tax since they are making us do it?

The Deputy Mayor then said – When the time is appropriate we will bring this to council.

I followed up with:

Thank you. Perhaps a letter from Essex would help and give you another opportunity to speak to it and provide a paper trail for us.

The Deputy Mayor said: The County has yet to do a financing plan. The Mayor and I have voiced opposition that we are opposed and our taxes should not be raised.

Thank you Deputy Mayor,

I think it’s important to be vocal about who bears the cost.

Appreciate your help on this.

At County Council the Mayor Entered this Notice of Motion:

June 1st

Notice of Motion
That the County of Essex take regional control, both operationally and financially, for the impending organic waste collection and disposal, and furthermore that the County of Essex take control of generic waste for all 7 lower tier municipalities, both operationally and financially, as lower tier garbage collection contracts expire.
The expectation is that garbage collection of every type will become the responsibility of the County of Essex and the cost will become part of the County of Essex tax levy.
