County Road 50 Paved Shoulder

It is Almost Complete!

Let’s celebrate a significant milestone for our community with the enhancement of County Road 50. This project is made possible by a generous investment of over $2.7m from the federal government through the Infrastructure Canada Active Transportation Fund. This funding enables the County of Essex to transform County Road 50, making it safer and more accessible for pedestrians and cyclists. Thank you Corinne Chiasson for applying for this grant on behalf of Town of Essex.

The improvements include 5.7 kilometers of 1.5 metre wide paved shoulders, safety pavement markings, and clear signage. Additionally, new rest stops, benches, and wayfinding signage will be installed to enhance the comfort and enjoyment of everyone traveling along this route.

This project is a major accomplishment for the County of Essex, connecting our wester shoreline communities to one another, from Amherstburg to Point Pelee. We are thrilled to be able to complete this important stretch of the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail.

These enhancements are not just about infrastructure; they are about connecting people to nature, historic sites, the CWATS network and trails, and local businesses. They are about promoting a healthier, more active lifestyle and ensuring everyone, young and old, and of all abilities can safely enjoy the beauty and amenities our region has to offer.

This project aligns perfectly with Canada’s National Active Transportation Strategy, which aims to make travel by active transportation easier, safer, and more enjoyable. By investing in active transportation infrastructure, we are not only improving our local environment but also creating jobs and strengthening our economy.

I would like to reiterate my gratitude to the federal government, the County of Essex, and all the partners involved in making this project a reality. I’d like to extend our thanks to Bike Windsor Essex, The Waterfront Regeneration Trust, Tourism Windsor-Essex, and our MP’s for their support for this project. I would also like to remind our residents and visitors that all businesses remain open during the construction of this project. Please continue to shop local and support our incredible businesses.
