Essex Council had a very healthy conversation about the pros and cons of uploading committee meetings to our YouTube Channel. One step we took is to look at the feasibility of uploading the Police Service Board Meetings to our Essex Ontario You Tube channel. Councillors brought forward various views, Councillor Bjorkman talked to residents he sits on committees with and brought that feedback to council about the hesitation to being online.
At the end of the discussion council agreed to look into the Police Service Board meeting because it is one of the more formal committees. Currently the Police Service Board Committee is held early in the month at 4:30, this is a time not everyone can zoom in. If the meeting was uploaded to You Tube anyone can view at their convenience. The OPP contract is one of our biggest expenses and other towns offer the viewing on You Tube- Check out the Town of Tecumseh on You Tube, you can watch one of their Police Service Board meetings.
This is great news! A small step in the right direction. I hope when the report comes back council decides to move forward with the uploading. I will keep you posted. When I know you know!.
