October 21, 2020 was a cold morning so I put a call out to our community to “Clean Out Your Closet and Donate Your Old Coats”. What I want to say to our community is, “WOW! You did it!” Amazing work everyone. Over 210 coats were collected and more are still coming in. The coats were placed out on my driveway for a few days and I notified the community by social media to scoop one if you need one. The first day, ten coats were picked up! It made my heart warm to know that people were finding coats they needed.
Later, with the help of amazing women Kathy Beaudoin from Essex Food Basket, Cindy Schwab and Lisa Fischer, we held several food basket events and gave out coats, hats, mittens, boots and anything else that was donated. The response was amazing and people were so grateful. We try to match people with coats whenever anyone reaches out. The coat collection was advertised in the Harrow News, on social media and flyers we placed on the doorsteps before our food basket events. If you need a coat still, call Lisa 519-738-9628.
During our Food Basket drive-through events, we also paired with Little Hands for a Cause to collect new toys for their Hero Program. You can find more out about little hands in the link below. Thank you again to all the people who donated and special thanks to the women who stood out in the cold making sure everyone found what they needed this winter. Big Hometown Hero Shout Out!
