Seeking a Policy on Town Ribbon Cuttings

  • News

The Town of Essex greets new businesses with an official ribbon cutting. It is great welcoming new businesses to our town but some have fallen through the cracks without a best practice or policy in place to capture our new businesses. I believe it is time to develop such a policy.

Policy Needed!

I have entered the following Notice of Motion so we have consistent practices. This motion will be entered August 22nd and debated Sept 6th if there is a seconder.

“That council direct administration to set up a free business registration section on our town website where businesses can select a ribbon cutting and get information about town services.”

This way we are fair to businesses and hopefully no business will be left behind. I love celebrating new businesses that pick Essex to open, and I do not want to miss any! Once we get an accessible place on our website we can spread the word to new businesses and make sure we do our part to help them become known to the community.

I believe having a place on our website for new businesses to register would be mutually beneficial. Town council and staff would then have information and that business would know where to turn for questions and answers for example, which day the garbage and recycling go out.

Welcome to Essex!
