Community Living Essex County

October is Disability Employment Awareness Month

That the correspondence by Community Living Essex, asking
Council to consider proclaiming Disability Employment
Awareness for the Month of October in the Town of Essex, be
received OR received and supported; and if received and
supported

That Council proclaims the Month of October as Disability
Employment Awareness in the Town of Essex by adopting the
following proclamation:
Whereas, Community Living Essex County supports over 700
people who have an intellectual disability so that they may live
in a state of dignity and share in all elements of living in their
community with an opportunity to actively participate. One
element of living in a community is contributing through gainful
and meaningful employment.
And Whereas this year, more than ever, it’s vital to
acknowledge the contributions that citizens of the Town of
Essex who have a disability make to workplaces, to their
communities and to society; and to acknowledge that there is
still so much more opportunity.
And Whereas many of our local businesses are focused on
staying open and having their staffing needs met. With several
business sectors facing labor shortages over the next
decade, and others growing, this hidden talent pool of highly
educated and skilled people can help our local businesses not
only recover from the pandemic, but also expand their base of
qualified candidates so they’re prepared for the future.
According and on behalf of the Town of Essex , the Mayor
does hereby proclaim October as National Disability
Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) in the Town of
Essex so as to acknowledge and celebrate the workplace
contributions of people in our community who have a disability,
and the business successes and benefits stemming from hiring
with a focus on diversity and inclusion.
