At the Regular Council Meeting on June 21st, Council was asked to receive E.L.K.’s audited financial statements. During that public meeting I questioned E.L.K. staff about their Asset Management plan. E.L.K staff said this was only a meeting to talk about audited financials. Every time E.L.K. has come to council in public session we have only been allowed to ask questions about their audited financials and nothing else even though we are the sole shareholder.
It was suggested by the current Mayor at the time, Snively to raise it at the next meeting through a Notice of Motion, which I did. Unfortunately, the E.L.K. Asset Management Plan was questioned at the time by only 1 Councillor. My Motion failed to receive a seconder.
Here is the Motion:
The following Notice of Motion was presented at the July 5, 2021 Regular
Council Meeting and is being brought forward this evening for Council’s
consideration:
Councillor Bondy
That Essex Town Council request that E.L.K Energy’s Board meeting
minutes be open to Council and/or the Asset Management Plan be
shared with Council; and
That Essex Town Council request Ron McDermott, Chair of E.L.K. Energy,
raise this request at the next scheduled meeting as per Mayor Snively’s
suggestion at the June 21, 2021 council meeting.
Moved by Councillor Bondy
Motion failed due to lack of seconder.
No one on council wanted to talk about it. Why? I do not know…. It is a million dollar asset that you and I own…
Note- Councillor Verbeek was away.
