In case you gotta go!
The Town’s past practice was to have Town outdoor washroom facilities opened beginning of May, and for some areas without permanent washrooms we order portajohns to have them in place at the same time – beginning of May. Based on this timeline, we budget our staff levels (i.e. summer students for cleaning) and equipment rentals (portajohns) to start in May. We have individuals in our outdoor parks 12 months a year but do not have the funds to have washrooms open or rented 12 months a year. In addition, please note that most of our parks and trails, similar to most municipalities, do not have washrooms at all times throughout the year. This is a level of service and should you wish council to increase this level, please email councilmembers@essex.ca so funding can be added to the appropriate accounts for future budget deliberations.
Sadler’s Pond
During the past few years, we had a portajohn placed in Sadler’s Park for the summer months. Unfortunately, the unit has been vandalized on a regular basis and set on fire 3 times in the past 2 years. Due to the past vandalism our contractor has notified us that they will not be placing a unit in Sadler’s Park again this year due to previous damage.
