Saturday April 24th 2021, I was called at 5:30 pm about a water main break on the corner of Cameron and Fox. This was the 3rd break in the town that day. The emergency response system in place took two hours to get a response which is something I believe council should review in the near future. I quickly put a call out on my social media for help and the Mills family came and all pitched in to help. Corey Rainville of the Slush Pup Shack was also onsite helping the neighbours who were flooding. Thank goodness this break happened during the day when our community was able to help each other.
The Town CAO responded to council with the following statement:
“Tower being out of service for maintenance is playing havoc with our older infrastructure. We’ve been communicating steadily with Ontario Clean Water Agency and Union Water to try and remedy things. Union water will be covering the costs of the breaks”.
The Town of Essex Water Department did a fantastic job when they arrived on scene to slow the water pressure and get the proper equipment to fix the break.
When I hear more about this file I will update everyone.
