Improvements Coming to King & Erie

  • News

Check this off the bucket list- well hopefully! Numerous complaints have come to council about the width and the amount of traffic accidents witnessed. Hopefully the improvements proposed below will fix some of those concerns. Council did have a short but healthy conversation about this corner at the Special Meeting of Council held March 9th, 2021. The full discussion on this topic and other infrastructure topics is on our Essex Ontario You Tube Channel.

As part of the Streetscape plan the corner of King and Erie is getting tweaked– no traffic light yet but some much needed improvements. The provisions for underground infrastructure is being put in place during streetscape construction so that in the future if council goes ahead to put in a traffic light the road will not have to be dug up.

The Curb on the southwest corner will be removed and brought in closer to the property to allow for a bigger turning radius.

There will be an adjustment to the curb on the southeast corner as well to open up the intersection.

A signalized pedestrian crossing with also be installed with a push button with a stop bar painted on the road to encourage cars to park while pedestrians are crossing.

Another big improvement will be parking on King street will be moved to the south side of the road to allow for a bigger turning radius onto Erie from King, coming from the west. Turns out Jonathan was right all along wasn’t he?
