OPP Billing Model- How Much and Why?

  • News

How the Ontario Provincial Police collect money from the municipalities they serve is determined in a few different ways. Base services, calls for service, contract enhancements, overtime, prisoner transportation, accommodation, cleaning and court securities. Base calls include proactive policing and calls for service include reactive policing generally speaking.

“The OPP provide a closest to the call response for service. Victim focused, Intelligence lead, problem oriented and intelligence based.”

To hear the full explanation go to the Nov 4th 2019 council meeting.

The small pie chart indicates $23M in costs are recovered from municipalities
requiring court security, accommodation or cleaning services as well as from
municipalities that have requested contract enhancements.

The line in this chart demonstrates how the Base Services cost per property is
generally trending slowly downward from year to year. This is reflective of the
slowly declining total base services cost and the fact that the number of OPP
policed properties has increased by 3.4% since 2015.
