Monday evening with council support administration will proceed with the 30-day public review
process for the Southwest Area Stormwater Improvements Environmental Assessment.
During the past several years, Council has progressively pursued improving storm water
management within the Town of Essex. The Town has proceeded with immediate large capital
infrastructure works, investigations, and stormwater modelling that have highlighted
potentially deficient areas and improved planning for future improvements and efficiencies.
As part of this process, Council initiated the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA)
process on May 15, 2017 to model, evaluate, and provide recommendations for improving
deficient areas within the southwest area of Ward 1. The results of this study along with
subsequent recommendations are described in the presentation by Stantec Consulting at this
meeting. The final steps in this MCEA process is to consult the public, and if no major concerns
are raised, file the Notice of Completion with the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and
Parks (MECP) followed by a mandatory 30-day public review
Phase 1 of the project will be funded by the approved 2021 capital budget which includes
funding for PW-19-0064 – Ward 1 Storm Improvements in the amount of $4,559,912.
It has been a long road to get here but the Town of Essex is making great gains to preventing future flooding.
