Dog Park Incident Sat Feb 20th – Reminder of Rules

  • News

I was notified this morning about an incident at the Dog Park in Ward 1 on Saturday February 20th around 6:00. A resident with two aggressive dogs entered the dog park and her dogs attacked another dog within the park. This kind of behavior is unacceptable in the dog park and will not be tolerated. I have asked Animal Control and OPP to investigate. Please spread the work that aggressive dogs are not welcomed at the dog park and all dogs must be under voice control of owners.

An off-leash dog park is available for public use in Essex Centre. Located near the old pool house near the Essex Centre Sports Complex (60 Fairview Avenue West), the dog park consists of an enclosed and grassed area with an additional fenced entrance that allows handlers to leash their dogs before exiting the park.

The dog park is self-policed but guidelines are clearly posted. To use the park, dogs must have up-to-date vaccinations and dog tags and must be under constant supervision and voice control. Puppies under four months old, dogs in heat, and sick or aggressive dogs are prohibited from using the park. Handlers are limited to three dogs each.

Please read the rules before entering the dog park and abide by them. Thank you
